Beyond Our Walls

Trinity church is committed to sharing our resources with others in need. We reach out within our communities of Wauwatosa and Milwaukee, and also to those in need around the world. Trinity works hard each year to share both our time and our resources.

Many of our parishioners volunteer time and give financial support to outside groups, including Our Next Generation/Homework Club, Interfaith and The Gathering, along with many others.

  • Support for Our Next Generation/Homework Club is provided through mentors and tutors who assist inner-city children with homework and help children to establish goals and see them through to successful completion.
  • Several of our members partner with Interfaith to provide support often needed by elderly person still living in their own home.
  • Our church also comes together as a team to feed the hungry several times a year at The Gathering at St. James Episcopal Church in downtown Milwaukee.

Each of these groups receives financial contributions from the parish as well. Some of this support comes through activities held at church which provide fellowship for the parish and funds for outreach. Our recent Auction for Outreach raised over $10,000 to share with programs such as Camp Webb, Habitat for Humanity, our diocesan mission in Haiti and Kyle's Corner, a local organization assisting children who have lost a loved one. Trinity supports many more organizations and the list changes from time to time as special needs and circumstances arise.

Every year Trinity sponsors the Trinitree, where individuals purchase Christmas gifts for children in need on the Milwaukee South Side. Run through the Bay View Community Center, this gift program empowers the parents of these children by having the parents themselves give the gifts, rather than having their children receive them from an anonymous benefactor. By doing so, we are not only making a child happy, but giving some dignity to their parent at a time when financial trouble has all but stripped that away. The program also provides gifts to seniors in the Milwaukee area who have no family to visit them in care facilities at Christmas.

This year Trinity church will embark on an exciting new joint project with St. James Episcopal Church located in the Milwaukee inner-city. Working together, our two churches are taking over a long-established clothing ministry to the homeless in the city. Newly named "Red Door Clothes" (after the traditional red doors that Trinity, St. James and so many Episcopal churches have), this ministry will reopen in October of 2007 and provide continued support and needed resources to a vastly underserved and often forgotten segment of the Milwaukee population. If you want to help either directly through sorting and distributing clothes, or by making or collecting clothing donations, please contact the parish office, and we will put you in touch with the right people.

Our building is also a resource and opportunity for outreach. Several groups use our facility on a regular basis for occasional events or regular meetings. Among our more regular users, the Milwaukee Children's Choir and the Milwaukee Center for Strings bring opportunities for professional-level music education and performance for countless children throughout the surrounding community. If you are aware of other non-profit groups that might benefit from the use of our facilities, contact the church office for more information on use policies.

Much of this work is spearheaded by our Outreach committee which meets regularly to identify and evaluate needs, and works to both raise the funds which support outside charitable needs, and to connect the many gifts that members of this parish possess with groups that can use their talents and assistance. If you have interest in serving on or working with the Outreach committee, please let us know by contacting the church office.

This is all just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what the people of God can do in the world. If you have ideas for ministries, please let us know!
